Tribute to Adam Ball
Adam Ball first played for Meds Mens 1stteam in the 2004/2005 season. After a brief spell away, he then became a regular for 3 seasons from 2008 to 2011. Affectionately known as “Bally” to his team mates, he was a very popular character both on and off the field. Bally was a talented footballer who scored and set up many goals for the Club during a successful period under the guidance of Tony Lannon and Dave Stead.
Sadly, earlier this year Adam was diagnosed with the incurable condition, Motor Neurone Disease and is now confined to a wheelchair.
On Saturday 8thSeptember, his family organised a charity fund raising event at the A.J.Bell Stadium to raise funds towards MND research. The event was attended by around 200 of his family, friends and work colleagues who all made it a night to remember for Adam.
Players from Meds, past & present who played with Bally attended the event to support him on his special night. A framed Meds shirt with his squad number was presented to him by the players. The photo shows his former team mates together with managers Tony & Dave.
Our Head of Club Welfare Matt Carr met with Colin Bridgford CEO of Manchester FA to discuss all things Welfare and current status and future plans for safeguarding at our club.
AFC Urmston Meadowside Taster Session
Big thank you to Coaches Glyn, Neil, Simon, Brian and David for running the Meds Taster Session for those currently in reception (& some nursery and year 1’s who came along as well as well!).
The coaches ran the session with enthusiasm and the organisation as always was spot on. Thanks chaps for your continued commitment to AFC Urmston Meadowside.
We had 26 children attend and all have said they are keen to sign up their children. The children that attended came from nine local schools and we’d like to thank those schools for their continued support.
We will be having further discussions about more taster sessions before the season ends so please keep an eye out for further dates.
Thanks finally to all those children that attended and we hope this will be the start of a fantastic football career here at Meds.
Matt Carr Appointed to League Welfare Officer
Great news on the appointment of our very own Head of Welfare Matt Carr into the position of Timperley and District League Welfare Officer, another example of the great team we have at AFC Urmston Meadowside.
NBM have always been keen to provided sponsorship for teams at Urmston Meadowside. For the last 3 seasons their generosity has enabled players to benefit from new kits on a regular basis.
Their MD Danny Kindell is a keen supporter of football at all levels and also a qualified coach / manager of a junior football team. This mix of business and football knowledge mean that he is ideally placed to understand the importance of investing both time and financial support into grassroots football.
Whilst the children’s focus will be on the football, not on what things cost , they still love pulling on a new kit at the start of the season and we at the club are extremely grateful for NBM’s continued support.
David Lloyd Trafford City Sponsorship
The Urmston Meadowside Under 7’s are proud to be sponsored by the David Lloyd Trafford City. The David Lloyd were looking to support local sports clubs and once approached by our team administrator Rachel Robinson who carefully explained the clubs values and benefits it brings to the local community, the David Lloyd team were keen to support the group.
The sponsorship enabled the team to purchase a full new Nike Kit for all players in the age group and as you can see from the picture it looks absolutely brilliant.
Jake the General Manager from the David Lloyd Trafford City kindly invited the lead coaches with a couple of players after a regular training session to visit the club for a promotional shot kindly taken by one of the player's Mum’s; the wonderfully talented Claire Jackson from Claire Jackson Photography.
The under 7 team are especially thankful for the great sponsorship from David Lloyd management team and the support we receive from them throughout the year
Meds International Friendly
It not often a team travels 5,682 miles for an away fixture but that's what
happened when Urmston Meadowside U8's hosted two teams from China. SH.
Shenxin FC, travelled from Shanghai and spent a week training at Manchester
Utd before playing the games.
After playing two matches, the coaches mixed the teams with players from
Meds and Shenxin playing together on the same side. Despite the obvious
language barrier it was great to see the players communicating and working
together as a team.
After the games Meadowside presented the Shenxin team with a number of gifts
including a shirt signed by all the players. In return each Meds player
received a Shenxin FC training shirt.
The Meds coaches said "It was a fantasic experience for the players from
both teams. We'd like to say a big thank you to Man Utd, Urmston Meadowside,
the parents, coaches and most of all both sets of players for making it such
great day. Hopefully we'll get the chance to play the away fixture in
The FA 3 Lions Schools Coaching Programme
Urmston Meadowside’s schools’ coaching course has just completed its 11th year. The successful programme known as the FA 3 Lions Coaching Course provides football coaching sessions for young boys and girls from several schools in the area. Sessions are run by Meadowside Coaches during late Spring and early Summer at the new artificial pitch at Flixton Girls School. The final sessions were completed on Friday 23rd June at which all participants were presented with a medal and a personalised 3 Lions certificate.
Many of the boys and girls will now join the Club to further develop their football skills.
NEW 3G PITCH OFFICIALLY OPENED AT FLIXTON GIRLS SCHOOL
The new 3G all weather pitch at Flixton Girls School was officially opened on Thursday 3rd November 2016. The project has been developed to promote local grassroots sports in the area and Urmston Meadowside is the community partner club. This means that Meds has access on specific evenings during the week as well as use for mini-soccer and 9v9 league games at weekends. The facility was opened by former England Women’s football goalkeeper, Rachel Brown-Finnis who played 82 times for England as well as several Clubs including Liverpool Ladies and Everton Ladies. Rachel also played for overseas teams in the USA and Iceland.
Jimmy Khan (Vice Chair) and Dave Stead (Club Treasurer & Development Manager) attended the event on behalf of Meds, together with other VIPs from the FA, The Football Foundation and local authority.
Through the community partnership with the school, the new facility gives the club further opportunities to develop its players and will enable us to continue to provide our “FA 3 Lions Coaching Scheme” for junior’s schools during Spring and early Summer each year.

Tuesday 26th May 2015
The club is sad to announce the passing away of our Club President John Rushton.
John, after a request from his son Kevin, formed the first 'Meds' team way back in the '70s and the rest is history.
John always kept in touch with the club even though he moved to Cyprus many years ago and was thrilled about the ongoing development, none more so, than the award of the 'National FA Community Club of the Year'.
John will be sadly missed but always remembered. The club sends condolences to his family.
